How customers choose
Diners in El Paso pick a restaurant from a phone. They open Google or Maps, look at the stars, tap the menu, check whether you’re open right now, and either order or move on. Restaurant website design, done right, is about making that sequence work in your favor: a menu Google can read, an order button that goes to you instead of to a 30% commission, and hours that match the sign on the door. Rodco Systems builds restaurant websites in El Paso, Las Cruces and Juárez, in English and Spanish, and shows you a free sample of your home page in one business day.
Where do diners look first?
Google, and the menu before they commit. In Toast’s September 2024 survey of 850 U.S. adults, 25% said they always check a restaurant’s menu before choosing where to eat and 34% said they often do. In its December 2023 survey of 1,157 adults, 46% said Google Reviews was the first place they checked ratings, twice Yelp’s share, and 32% said they always look at the restaurant’s website before visiting.
Your Google Business Profile is the front door. Your website is where the profile sends people when they want the full menu, the catering form or the second location’s hours. If one is stale, the other looks stale too.
The size of the market is on record. El Paso County had 1,452 restaurant establishments in 2025, employing about 33,300 people, and Doña Ana County had 254 more. Across the river, INEGI’s directory lists 6,065 restaurant establishments in Juárez, and 135 of them (2.2%) list a website. Most of those are chains. A taquería with a menu page that opens fast on a phone has very little company.
What does your site have to do?
One job: get a hungry person from “what do they have?” to an order or a table in the fewest taps. Everything else on the page supports that.
The menu comes first. It goes on a web page with sections, prices and photos, at an address that never changes. That same address goes in your Business Profile’s menu link and in the menu field of your Restaurant structured data, so Google reads one menu instead of three versions. A photo of the menu can’t do any of that, and a PDF makes a phone user pinch and scroll. In the Toast survey, 66% of diners preferred menus with dish photos, and 60% wanted service charges written on the menu itself.
Then the order button. DoorDash takes 15% to 30% of a delivered order in the U.S. and 6% on pickup. Uber Eats takes 20% to 30% plus 7% on pickup, after raising its fees in March 2026. Both also sell a direct-ordering page for your own site: Online Ordering by DoorDash has no commission, and Uber Eats Webshop costs 2.5% plus 29 cents an order. Whatever ordering tool you already run, including your POS vendor’s page, we link it from every page and set it as “Preferred” for pickup and delivery on your Business Profile. Google lists any delivery app that claims a relationship with you automatically, so if you don’t mark your own link as preferred, the profile shows theirs.
One catch on the border: Google won’t accept a WhatsApp or Facebook link as an order or reservation button. The link has to land on a page where the order can actually be completed. If you take orders by WhatsApp, the WhatsApp button lives on your site’s menu page, and that menu page is what goes on Google.
What does the page look like? An illustrative wireframe
Picture a phone screen. At the top: your name, “Open until 9 p.m. today” and three buttons, Call, Order and Directions. Below that, the menu by section, each dish with a price and a photo, with today’s special pinned to the top of the first section. Then your hours, with takeout, delivery, drive-through and pickup hours where they differ, the address with a map link, and a reviews line that links to your Google profile. On the Spanish page, the same layout written in Spanish, with WhatsApp beside Call. For a Juárez location, prices in pesos with IVA included and a dollar reference beside them.
That is an illustrative wireframe, not a client’s site. Your menu, your photos and your cross street go in; the structure stays the same because it’s the one diners already know how to use.
Who crosses the bridge to eat?
In the El Paso and Ciudad Juárez cross-border survey published in Estudios Fronterizos in 2022, U.S. residents spent about $30.9 million at sit-down restaurants in Juárez in the last quarter of 2019, their largest named spending category, ahead of groceries. Mexican residents spent about $6.6 million at sit-down restaurants in El Paso in the same quarter. Food moves both ways. An El Paso restaurant gets Spanish-reading families from Juárez, and a Juárez restaurant gets English-reading diners from El Paso.
In El Paso, 63% of city residents age 5 and up speak Spanish at home. A bilingual menu here isn’t a courtesy. It’s how most of the city reads you. We write the Spanish page in Spanish, not through a translation plugin, and we write “burrito de asado” the way the sign out front does.
Which seasons move the menu?
About 78% of the people in the Diocese of El Paso are Catholic, by the Church yearbook figures compiled at catholic-hierarchy.org, and Fridays in Lent are meatless from age 14. Ash Wednesday falls on February 10 in 2027. A specials block that takes minutes to update, plus the same change in the Google menu editor, puts your Friday seafood or meatless plate in front of people before the season starts. Google’s menu changes take 24 to 48 hours to show, so update the week before, not that morning.
The same block carries the daily plate, the game-day special and the holiday hours. It is the part of the site that changes most, so we build it to be changed without touching anything else.

Must-have features
A menu Google can read.
An HTML menu with sections, prices and dish photos at one stable URL, used in the Business Profile menu link and in the menu field of your Restaurant structured data. 59% of diners in Toast's 2024 survey always or often check the menu first, and 66% want photos.
An order button that goes to you.
Your own ordering page (your POS vendor's, Online Ordering by DoorDash or Uber Eats Webshop) linked from every page and set as Preferred on Google, so the profile sends people to a commission-free or low-fee order instead of a 15% to 30% app order.
A bilingual menu with currency rules built in.
English and Spanish for El Paso. For a Juárez location, Spanish first and prices in pesos with IVA included, as Mexican consumer law requires, with dollars shown as a reference beside them.
Click-to-call and WhatsApp buttons on the site, not in the Google slots.
Google rejects messaging links as order or reservation links, so the site is where WhatsApp orders start.
Hours that match Google exactly, by service.
Google lets a restaurant set separate takeout, delivery, drive-through and pickup hours on top of its main hours. A mismatch between the site and the profile is how a diner shows up to a locked door.
Fees and tipping stated on the menu page, worded per country.
Texas treats a labeled gratuity of 20% or less as non-taxable; Mexico bars adding a tip without consent. 60% of U.S. diners want surcharges stated on the menu.
Restaurant structured data generated from the same source as the page.
servesCuisine, menu, hours and address in the format Google documents, so what Google reads is what the diner sees.
A specials block that takes minutes to update.
Lenten Fridays, game days and the daily plate change weekly. The change goes in once on the site and once in the Google menu editor, which takes 24 to 48 hours to show.
Seller details on any Juárez ordering page.
Mexican law requires your physical address, phone numbers, complaint contact, all charges and payment methods before an online sale.
A reservation or large-party link that completes the booking.
Google accepts reservation links only when they land on a page that finishes the booking, through a supported provider or your own page.

Region notes
El Paso
El Paso County had 1,452 restaurant establishments and about 33,300 restaurant jobs in 2025 (BLS). 63% of city residents age 5 and up speak Spanish at home, so a menu in both languages is the norm here, not a feature. The City of El Paso's Food Inspection Program posts scores for the city, Horizon City, Socorro, Anthony, Clint and Vinton, and 70 or above passes; a strong recent score is a fact you can state on your site. The Franklin Mountains split the city, so say which side you're on (Westside, Eastside, Northeast, Lower Valley) on your Business Profile and your site, and name the cross street the way customers do.
Southern New Mexico
Doña Ana County had 254 restaurant establishments and about 6,600 restaurant jobs in 2025 (BLS). Las Cruces and Sunland Park restaurants are permitted and inspected by the New Mexico Environment Department under 7.6.2 NMAC, amended effective October 1, 2026, which still requires a certified food protection manager and a food handler card within 30 calendar days of hire. About 29% of Las Cruces residents speak Spanish at home and most are bilingual, so the page leads in English with a full Spanish version beside it. NMSU counted 16,678 students on its main campus at the fall 2026 census; El Paseo Road restaurants should have back-to-campus specials live in August. If you pass New Mexico gross receipts tax on to customers, it has to appear as its own line on the invoice.
Ciudad Juárez
INEGI's directory lists 6,065 restaurant establishments in Juárez. 85.7% employ five people or fewer, and 135 (2.2%) list a website, mostly chains, so an independent taquería or burrito counter with a real bilingual menu page stands out at once. U.S. residents spent about $30.9 million at sit-down restaurants in Juárez in a single quarter of 2019, the largest named category in the cross-border survey, so an English menu earns its keep. The law puts pesos first: prices in MXN with IVA included, dollars as a reference beside them, tips voluntary and never added without consent, no minimum spend. Uber Eats operates in Juárez and charges 25% to 29% there. If you take orders by WhatsApp, Google won't accept that link as the order button, so the web menu page still has to exist. If you issue CFDI invoices, say so on the page and show how to request one.

Questions
Should my restaurant menu be a web page or a PDF?
A web page. Google's structured data takes the menu as a URL, and Google's own menu editor can turn a PDF or a photo into a structured menu, so there's no reason to make diners open a download. On a phone a PDF means pinching and scrolling, and it can't show dish photos the way a page does: in Toast's September 2024 survey, 66% preferred menus with dish photos. We build the menu as a page with sections, prices and photos, and changing a price or a dish takes minutes, not a redesign.
Can I put my WhatsApp number as the "Order" button on Google?
No. Google's policy for Business Profile action links rules out messaging links, social media, app-store links and link shorteners, and each link must land on a page where the customer can finish the order. Put the WhatsApp button on your website's menu page instead, and use that page as the Google order or menu link.
Why is DoorDash showing on my Google profile when I never added it?
Google automatically lists third-party providers that say they have an authorized relationship with your restaurant. You can add your own ordering link, mark it "Preferred" for pickup and for delivery separately, and ask Google to remove a provider's link; the provider has to take it down within 5 business days of the request. We set this up as part of your Business Profile work.
How much do DoorDash and Uber Eats cost per order?
In the U.S., DoorDash charges 15%, 25% or 30% of each delivered order depending on the plan, and 6% on pickup orders. Uber Eats charges 20%, 25% or 30% plus a 7% pickup fee, after raising its lowest tier from 15% in March 2026. Both also sell a direct-ordering page: Online Ordering by DoorDash carries no commission (payment processing still applies), and Uber Eats Webshop costs 2.5% plus 29 cents per order. In Mexico, Uber Eats charges 25% to 29% with payment processing included.
Can I advertise happy hour on my El Paso restaurant's website?
Yes. TABC rules let Texas retailers advertise on their own websites, and the on-premises promotion limits apply to that advertising: no "all you can drink" offers, no reduced drink prices after 11 p.m., and no more than two drinks served to one customer at a time. Coupon and sweepstakes rules apply too. We write the specials block with those limits in view; the TABC text, not ours, is the final word.
Do I need calorie counts on my online menu?
Only if you are part of a chain with 20 or more locations under the same name selling substantially the same menu, or you register with the FDA voluntarily. For those chains the rule covers menus on the Internet. An independent El Paso or Las Cruces restaurant doesn't need calories on its web menu.
Can I add an automatic service charge?
In Texas, yes, and say so on the menu: 60% of diners in Toast's September 2024 survey wanted surcharges stated there. For sales tax, the Comptroller treats a mandatory gratuity of 20% or less as non-taxable when it is labeled "tip" or "gratuity" and goes only to service staff; outside those conditions, read Pub. 94-117 before you print it. In Juárez the rules differ: a tip can't go on the bill without the customer's consent, and minimum-spend requirements aren't allowed, so a border restaurant group needs different wording per location.
Do you build the online ordering system?
We link the one you already have, whether that is your POS vendor's ordering page, Online Ordering by DoorDash, Uber Eats Webshop or a reservations provider: from every page, as the preferred link on Google, with the menu kept in sync. If you don't have one yet, we put what each option costs in writing so you can choose, then connect it.
How do I get more customers for my restaurant?
Win the search on the phone. Keep your Google profile complete with the menu link, true hours by service and fresh dish photos; ask for reviews; and set your own ordering link as Preferred so app commissions don't take the margin. Post the specials where diners look, and in El Paso, Las Cruces and Juárez, write the menu in both languages.
