How customers choose

Plenty of people choose a photographer from a phone, in a few minutes, by scrolling. Photography website design comes down to getting that scroll right: your strongest work loading instantly, packages that answer the obvious questions, and a form that tells you right away whether the date is open. Rodco Systems builds photography websites for photographers and videographers in El Paso, Las Cruces and Juárez, with fast galleries and a booking form that checks the date.

Who books, and how?

Through search, referrals and social media, and then the website to decide. The website is where a couple compares three photographers side by side, where a realtor checks turnaround time, and where a quinceañera’s mother looks for prices before she calls.

The work is mostly independent. The Bureau of Labor Statistics counts about 145,000 photographers in the U.S., and 67% are self-employed. In El Paso County, 307 photography businesses had no employees in 2023, with average receipts around $18,400. That’s a business where every inquiry you don’t have to answer twice is time back for shooting and editing.

What does your site have to do?

Show the work fast, sort it the way clients shop, and get a qualified inquiry.

Speed is first. A portfolio built from 20 MB exports will lose a visitor on cellular data before the second image loads. We prepare every image for the screen it’s shown on and load the rest as the visitor scrolls. Full-resolution delivery stays in your gallery tool.

Then the sort. Weddings, quinceañeras, family portraits, headshots, products, real estate, aerial and video each get their own gallery and their own page, with the packages that apply to that kind of shoot. Each page can rank for its own search, which one long portfolio page can’t.

Then the inquiry. The form asks for the date first, then venue, coverage hours and budget range. If you use a booking or invoicing tool, the form hands off to it for the contract and deposit.

What does the page look like? An illustrative wireframe

Picture a phone screen. At the top: your name, “Weddings and quinceañeras in El Paso and Las Cruces” and one button, Check my date. Below, a full-width photo, then six square tiles, one per kind of shoot. Tap Weddings and you get a gallery of twelve images, three packages with what each includes, three reviews linked to Google, and the date-check form again. On the Spanish page, the same layout in Spanish, with WhatsApp beside the form.

That’s an illustrative wireframe, not a client’s site. Your photos and packages go in; the structure stays because it’s the order a client decides in.

How do you protect your images?

You can’t stop all copying, but you can make credit easy to find and enforcement possible. Google’s image license metadata, added to the page or embedded in the file as IPTC data, can show a Licensable badge in Google Images with your name and a link to your terms. We add it to your portfolio images.

Registration is the other half. The U.S. Copyright Office takes a group of up to 750 photos, all published or all unpublished, by the same author, for a $55 fee. Registering a season’s work in one batch keeps the cost per photo low.

What about video and drone work?

Video pages need short previews that start without sound and a link to the full film, not a 2 GB file on the page. Drone work needs the paperwork: under the FAA’s Part 107, the person at the controls needs a remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating or direct supervision by someone who has one. If you list aerial packages, we put the certification line on that page.

What your site must do

  1. Quote request
  2. Online booking

Must-have features

  1. A portfolio that opens fast on a phone.

Images resized and compressed per screen, loaded as the visitor scrolls. The work is the pitch, so it can't be the thing that makes the page slow.

  2. Galleries sorted the way clients shop.

Weddings, quinceañeras, portraits, products, real estate, aerial. A bride looking for a Westside church wedding shouldn't scroll past headshots to find one.

  3. A date check on the inquiry form.

Event date, venue, hours of coverage and budget range first, so you answer the bookable ones the same day.

  4. Package pages with what each one includes.

Hours, number of edited images, video length, second shooter, album. Starting prices are optional; the inclusions aren't.

  5. Image license metadata on your best work.

Creator and credit data in structured data or IPTC, so Google Images can show your name and the Licensable badge.

  6. A reviews and published-work section.

Real client reviews linked to their source, and outlets that ran your work. The FTC's 2024 rule bans fake or bought reviews.

  7. Spanish pages for the family that pays.

Quinceañera and wedding bookings on the border are often decided by parents who read Spanish first.

Region notes

El Paso

El Paso County had 307 photography businesses with no employees in 2023, averaging about $18,400 in receipts, so most local photographers run lean and answer inquiries from their phone. 63% of city residents age 5 and up speak Spanish at home, so if you shoot weddings and quinceañeras, a Spanish package page reaches the parents who often sign the contract. Name the areas you shoot in the way people say them (Westside, Eastside, Northeast, Lower Valley, Upper Valley) and the venues you know.

Southern New Mexico

Doña Ana County had 91 photography businesses with no employees in 2023. Las Cruces photographers who also cover El Paso should state the travel radius and any travel fee on the package page. Aerial work near White Sands Missile Range or on public land can run into restricted airspace or land-manager rules, so if you fly a drone, check each location before you promise the shot and keep your Part 107 certificate current.

Ciudad Juárez

A Juárez photographer booking El Paso families, or the other way around, needs both languages and both currencies: prices in pesos with IVA included for Mexican clients, with dollars as a reference, as Mexican consumer law requires prices in pesos. The Asociación de Internet MX found 91% of urban internet users in Mexico have WhatsApp active (2026), so the button goes next to the form. Crossing equipment for a shoot on the other side is your own customs question; the site can say which side you're based on and whether you travel.

Questions

Won't big galleries make my site slow?

Not if the images are prepared for the web. We serve each photo in modern formats at the size the screen needs, load the ones below the fold only when someone scrolls to them, and keep full-resolution files in your client delivery tool, not on the portfolio. A phone visitor sees your best work in a second or two instead of waiting on a 20 MB file.

Should I put my prices on the site?

Starting prices filter out people who were never going to book and save you a phone call per inquiry. Many photographers show "packages from" with what each includes and quote the rest. Your call; the page works either way, and the inquiry form asks for the budget range.

How do I stop people from using my photos without credit?

Nothing stops copying entirely. Two things help. Google's image license metadata, either as structured data or as IPTC data embedded in the file, can show a Licensable badge in Google Images with your name and a link to your terms. And registering your work with the U.S. Copyright Office gives you standing to act: a group of up to 750 photos costs $55 to register.

Do I need a license to fly a drone for clients?

Under the FAA's Part 107 rule, the person at the controls of a small drone needs a remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating, or must be directly supervised by someone who has one. If you offer aerial work, say so on the page and keep your certificate current; we don't list drone services you aren't certified for.

I work from home. Will Google show my address?

It shouldn't. Google tells home-based businesses that meet clients elsewhere to clear the address from the Business Profile and set a service area instead. We set it up that way and put your service area on the site.

Can clients book and pay a deposit online?

Yes. The form checks the date, then sends a contract and deposit link from the booking or invoicing tool you already use, or one we help you pick. You keep the account; we connect it.

How much does a photography website cost?

It depends on the number of galleries, the booking and deposit setup and whether you need both languages. The site is quoted at a fixed price in writing, next to a free sample of your home page. Rodco Systems consistently undercuts local competition, with higher quality, and you own the site instead of paying a monthly portfolio subscription.
