How customers choose
A wholesale buyer doesn’t browse. They arrive with a part number, a brand or a spec, and they want to know two things fast: do you carry it, and how do I open an account. Wholesale website design built around those two questions looks different from a store site. The catalog is complete and searchable but shows no public prices, and the account application asks each buyer for the paperwork their state or country actually uses. Rodco Systems builds wholesale websites for distributors in El Paso and Juárez, in English and Spanish, with the catalog and the account application built in.
Why leave prices off the catalog?
Because your prices depend on the account. A contractor buying weekly, a store buying by the pallet and a plant buying under contract each get a different number, and a public price becomes the one everybody quotes back. So the catalog shows what the buyer needs to decide (name, SKU or part number, brand, pack size, minimum order, specs, photos) and puts “Request pricing” next to every item.
There is a cost to that choice, and it’s worth knowing before you make it. Google’s product rich results need a price, a review or a rating, so a catalog without prices won’t show star or price snippets. It competes on clear item text and specs instead, which is how buyers search anyway: by part number, by brand and by size.
What does the account application ask for?
The paperwork your counter asks for now, split by where the buyer is. A Texas buyer gets a resale certificate field (Form 01-339) and a Texas taxpayer number; the Comptroller is clear that a copy of their permit isn’t a substitute, and that you keep accepted certificates for four years. A New Mexico buyer gets a field for a Type 2 nontaxable transaction certificate instead. A buyer in Mexico gets RFC, régimen fiscal and uso de CFDI, because Mexican law has buyers request their CFDI and they’ll want it right the first time.
The form doesn’t decide what you accept. Your tax adviser does. We build the form to ask for exactly what they say, send the upload to the right inbox, and record the date.
What does the page look like? An illustrative wireframe
Picture a desktop screen, since most wholesale buyers order from one. Search by part number or brand at the top. Down the left, product lines. Each item row shows a photo, the SKU, pack size and minimum order, with a “Request pricing” button that carries the item and quantity into the request. Up top, a second button: “Apply for an account.” On a phone, the same search and the same buttons, with WhatsApp added for the buyer who’s standing on a job site.
That is an illustrative wireframe, not a client’s site.
Who buys from a border distributor?
Both sides of the river. The ports in TxDOT’s El Paso Region handled $42.6 billion in exports and $63.0 billion in imports in 2024, and a lot of it is parts and supplies bound for plants in Juárez. In Juárez, INEGI lists 1,294 wholesale establishments, and about one in five list a website. Buyers there expect a Spanish page, a factura and a quote in pesos or dollars. Buyers in El Paso and Las Cruces expect net terms, a resale form and an English page. One site can serve both if each buyer only sees the questions that apply to them.

Region notes
El Paso
El Paso County had 1,104 wholesale establishments and about 12,900 wholesale jobs in 2025 (BLS), most of them in durable goods: parts, equipment, building supplies. Much of the trade runs through the industrial areas along Zaragoza Road and Loop 375, and the region's ports moved $105.6 billion in exports and imports in 2024. A distributor here sells to stores in El Paso, plants in Juárez and contractors in Las Cruces in the same week, so the site shows which side of the border each line ships to.
Southern New Mexico
Doña Ana County had 212 wholesale establishments with about 1,500 jobs in 2025 (BLS). New Mexico doesn't use the Texas resale certificate: the buyer gives the seller a nontaxable transaction certificate, Type 2 for goods bought for resale. A distributor that ships to Las Cruces, Anthony or Deming needs a form that asks New Mexico buyers for that certificate and Texas buyers for theirs, without making either fill in the other.
Ciudad Juárez
INEGI lists 1,294 wholesale establishments in Juárez, and 271 of them list a website, about one in five, far more than the corner stores, so a Juárez distributor with no page is visibly behind. The first question a company buyer asks is whether you give factura: put it on the page, and have the account form collect RFC, régimen fiscal and uso de CFDI. Quote in pesos or dollars, and say which bridge your trucks use.

Questions
Should a wholesale site show prices?
Usually not to the public. Most distributors price by account, volume or contract, and a public price becomes the price every buyer quotes back at you. The usual layout is a full catalog with specs, pack sizes and minimums, a "Request pricing" or "Apply for an account" button on every item, and price sheets sent once the account is approved. One trade-off to know: Google's product rich results need a price, a review or a rating, so a no-price catalog competes on its text and specs, not on star snippets.
What should a wholesale account application collect?
Business name and address, contact, how they'll pay, and the tax document for their state or country. For a Texas buyer that's a resale certificate (Form 01-339) with their Texas taxpayer number; a copy of their permit isn't a substitute. For a New Mexico buyer it's a Type 2 nontaxable transaction certificate. A buyer in Mexico sends their RFC, régimen fiscal and uso de CFDI so their factura comes out right. Your tax adviser decides what you accept; the form just asks for it.
Can a Mexican buyer give me a Texas resale certificate?
The Comptroller says a buyer can issue a Texas resale certificate when they'll resell the items in the United States or in Mexico, not in other countries. The certificate still needs a Texas taxpayer number. Ask your tax adviser how you handle buyers without one; we build the form around their answer.
How long do I keep the resale certificates?
Texas says four years for each certificate you accept. When the form uploads the certificate, it goes to the email or folder you choose with the date and the account name, so it's findable when you need it.
Can approved buyers see their prices online?
Yes, as a separate build: a password-protected price page or a buyer portal, quoted with a dated timeline. Many distributors start with emailed or WhatsApp price sheets and add the portal once accounts grow.
How do I promote a wholesale business?
Make it easy for a buyer to find what you carry and open an account. Put the full catalog online with part numbers and brands but no public prices, add a short account application, and give your sales reps a link to send. List the brands you distribute so searches for them find you. For buyers in El Paso and Juárez, the catalog and the application should work in English and Spanish.
