How customers choose

A newcomer finds a church the way they find anything else now: on a phone, on a Saturday night, looking for a service time. A donor gives the same way, on a phone, after the service, if giving takes a minute. Church website design comes down to those two moments: a schedule anyone can read in either language, and a giving page that doesn’t make people work. Rodco Systems builds church and nonprofit websites in El Paso, Las Cruces and Juárez with service times, ministries and giving in English and Spanish.

How do people choose a church or a cause here?

They search for a time and a place. “Misa en español” and “church near me Sunday” are both questions about when and where, and the answer has to be on the first screen of your site and on your Google profile. In El Paso, 63% of residents speak Spanish at home, so the schedule shows each service with its language.

Across the river the field is wide open. INEGI’s directory lists 1,523 religious associations in Juárez, and 33 of them list a website. On both sides, the community nonprofit, whether a pantry, a shelter or a tutoring program, gets found the same way: by the service it offers, searched by name.

What does your site have to do?

Two jobs: bring a first-time visitor through the door and make giving easy. The first job is the schedule, the plan-your-visit page and the map. The second is a giving page with one-time and recurring gifts, a fund to choose and a receipt that arrives on its own.

Giving costs money to process, and the rates differ. PayPal charges approved U.S. charities 1.99% plus 49 cents a transaction, against 3.49% plus 49 cents at its standard rate. We put the options you’re weighing side by side before you pick one.

How does Google Ad Grants work for a church?

Google gives eligible nonprofits up to $10,000 a month in search ads. Eligibility runs through Google for Nonprofits: in the U.S., IRS recognition of 501(c)(3) status and a listing in the IRS online search. Churches are tax-exempt without applying to the IRS, but Google still wants the recognition, so a church without its own determination letter checks first whether its denomination’s group exemption covers it. Schools, hospitals and government bodies can’t join.

If you qualify, we help you apply, build the program pages the ads will point to and set up the account. The ads then answer searches like “food pantry El Paso” or “clases de inglés gratis” with your page.

What does the page look like? An illustrative wireframe

Picture a phone screen. At the top: the church’s name, “Sunday 9:00 a.m. English, 11:00 a.m. español” and two buttons, Plan your visit and Give. Below that, a short welcome, then the ministries as plain links: food pantry, youth, classes. Then the events calendar, the address with a map link and the giving page one tap away. On the Spanish page, the same layout in Spanish, with WhatsApp next to the phone number.

That is an illustrative wireframe, not a client’s site. Your services, your ministries and your neighborhood go in.

What your site must do

  1. Store visit
  2. Donations

Must-have features

  1. Service times on the home page, labeled by language.

The first thing a visitor looks for. Every service in one list with day, time and language, plus holiday schedules posted before the season starts.

  2. A plan-your-visit page.

Where to park, which door to use, what happens with the kids, what to wear and which service is in which language. A first visit is a small risk for a newcomer; this page makes it smaller.

  3. An online giving page that takes one minute.

One-time and recurring gifts, funds by name (general, building, missions), and receipts that carry what the IRS expects for gifts of $250 or more.

  4. A page for each ministry and program.

Food pantry hours, classes, youth group, volunteer sign-up. People search for the program, and those pages are what Ad Grants ads point to.

  5. An events calendar you can update.

Festivals, retreats and volunteer days, kept in one place on the site.

  6. A Google profile with current hours and holiday hours.

Christmas and Holy Week schedules change, and the profile is often the first thing a newcomer checks.

  7. Bilingual pages from top to bottom.

63% of El Paso residents speak Spanish at home. The welcome, the beliefs page and the giving page all come in both languages.

Region notes

El Paso

63% of El Paso residents speak Spanish at home. A parish or church that holds services in both languages has to show which is which at a glance. Group the schedule by day, label each service by language, and put the same times on your Google profile. Ministries that serve the whole city, such as food pantries and clothing drives, get their own pages with hours and drop-off details, because people search for the service, not for the church's name.

Southern New Mexico

Google Ad Grants works the same way for a Las Cruces nonprofit as for an El Paso one: IRS recognition of 501(c)(3) status, a listing in the IRS online search and a site with real content about the programs. About 29% of Las Cruces residents speak Spanish at home, so the main pages come in both languages, with Spanish service times shown wherever there are Spanish services. Program pages for NMSU volunteers and students belong on the calendar each August.

Ciudad Juárez

INEGI lists 1,523 religious associations in Juárez, and 33 of them list a website. A parroquia or templo with its horario de misas o cultos online, a map and a WhatsApp button is easy to find in that crowd. Google for Nonprofits is available in Mexico, with Mexico's own eligibility requirements, so an asociación civil can ask about Ad Grants there too. Contact and giving forms collect personal data, which calls for an aviso de privacidad; we write it for you, and your board or lawyer reviews it.

Questions

Is our church eligible for Google Ad Grants?

Possibly. Google requires charity status in good standing through Google for Nonprofits. In the U.S. that means IRS recognition of 501(c)(3) status and a listing in the IRS online search, even for churches, which the IRS treats as tax-exempt without applying. An organization covered by its denomination's group exemption may still qualify. Governmental bodies, hospitals and healthcare organizations, and schools are not eligible. Approved organizations get up to $10,000 a month in search ads on Google.

Our parish runs a school. Can the school use Ad Grants?

Not on its own. Google for Nonprofits excludes schools, academic institutions and universities. The parish or the ministry may qualify while the school does not, so the ads point to the parish's pages and programs.

What should an online giving receipt say?

For any single gift of $250 or more, the donor needs a written acknowledgment from you to deduct it. It names your organization and the amount, and says whether you gave goods or services in return, or only intangible religious benefits. Most giving platforms send receipts automatically; we set the receipt text so it includes those items, and your treasurer approves it.

What does online giving cost?

It depends on the platform. PayPal's rate for approved U.S. charities is 1.99% plus 49 cents per transaction, against 3.49% plus 49 cents for standard PayPal Checkout, and the charity rate takes an application. Other giving platforms price differently. We put the options you're considering side by side in writing, then connect the one you choose.

Should English and Spanish services share one page?

Yes. One schedule, with each service labeled by language, reads faster than two pages a newcomer has to choose between. The full site comes in both languages, but the service times block shows every service in one list: "9:00 a.m., English" and "11:00 a.m., español".

Do we need a page for each ministry?

For the ones people search for, yes. The food pantry, the ESL class, the youth group and the volunteer sign-up each get a page with days, times and who to contact. Those pages are also what Ad Grants ads point to, since a search ad works best when it lands on the exact program someone looked for.

How much does it cost to build a church website?

It depends on the pages the church needs, and most need a few done well: service times in both languages, ministries, a giving link and directions. Online giving tools charge their own processing fees, covered above. Rodco Systems gives a fixed price in writing next to a free sample of the home page, consistently undercuts local competition, with higher quality, and charges no monthly website fee. The domain and the site stay in the church's name.
