How to reach El Paso customers from Juárez

At a glance

  • In a City of El Paso and El Colef survey (2019-2020), US residents spent about $118.8 million on retail and $43.1 million on services in Juárez over 24 weeks.
  • From the US, a Juárez number is an international call: 011, then 52, then the 10-digit number. A WhatsApp link with the full number skips that step.
  • Mexican consumer law requires prices in pesos. A dollar figure can sit next to it as a dated reference.
  • Your Google Business Profile uses the real address of your Juárez location. Google rejects PO boxes and virtual offices.

To reach El Paso customers from Juárez, make three things easy for them: finding you in English, contacting you without placing an international call, and knowing what they will pay before they cross. In practice that means an English version of your website, a WhatsApp button with your full number, peso prices with a dollar reference beside them, and a Google Business Profile with the real address of your shop.

This guide is for the owner of a clinic, restaurant, repair shop or store in Juárez. Every figure has a source, listed at the end. The Spanish version is the original.

Who crosses from El Paso, and why

In 2025 the El Paso and Ysleta ports recorded about 27.1 million northbound person crossings: 19.4 million people in cars and 7.5 million on foot, according to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Those are crossings, not people; the same person may cross several times a week.

The more useful numbers for a business come from a City of El Paso Bridges Department and El Colef survey, run for 24 weeks in 2019 and 2020 and presented to El Paso City Council in September 2020:

  • US residents spent about $118.8 million on retail and $43.1 million on services in Juárez over those 24 weeks.
  • El Pasoans who visit Juárez trend 50 and older. They come mainly to see family and friends, for health care, to shop, and to eat and drink.
  • Almost one in three buys food or drinks, spending about $86 per visit. Health-care visits average $177.

The survey predates the pandemic, so read it as a portrait, not today’s count. Still, your El Paso customer is rarely a tourist: they know Juárez, often have family here, and can compare your prices with El Paso prices.

Many also speak Spanish: 63% of El Paso city residents age 5 and up speak Spanish at home, per the Census Bureau (2024). The English version is for everyone else, including bilingual people who search in English.

An English page written for people coming across

Google determines a page’s language from its visible text. If your site is only in Spanish, it will struggle to show up when someone in El Paso searches “dentist in Juarez” or “tacos near the Santa Fe bridge”. The English version should be written in English, not run through a machine translator; our bilingual website guide explains why, and how the two versions are linked for Google.

What that page needs that a Spanish page often leaves out:

  • Directions from the bridge. Paso del Norte (the Santa Fe) carries pedestrians both ways but cars northbound only; Stanton-Lerdo has three car lanes into Juárez, and the Bridge of the Americas (the Libre) is the only one of the four with no toll, according to the GSA. Say which is closest and how long the walk or drive takes.
  • Your hours, without surprises. By law, Juárez changes its clocks on the same dates as El Paso, so your hours read the same in both cities all year. Say so, because most of Chihuahua no longer changes the clock.
  • Payment and parking. If you take dollars or cards from US banks, and where to leave the car, put it where people will see it.
  • A link to Border Wait Times, CBP’s page with the wait at each port.

Phone and WhatsApp: let them reach you easily

From the US, your number is an international call. Per Mexico’s telecom regulator, the IFT, that means the international access code (011 from the US), Mexico’s 52, then your 10-digit number, landline or cell. On your English page, write it in full, starting with +52 656. It is still one extra step for the customer.

A WhatsApp button removes that step: the message travels over the internet, whichever side the phone is on. Per WhatsApp’s help center, the link is wa.me/ plus your full number in international format, digits only, with no plus sign, brackets or dashes; for Juárez it starts with 52656. The same link can carry a pre-filled message. Use a different one on the English page and you will know how many customers come in that way.

In Mexico, 91% of urban internet users have an active WhatsApp account (Asociación de Internet MX, 2026). We found no comparable figure for El Paso, so list your phone number and an email address too.

A US number that rings on your cell helps people who prefer to call; keep it in your business’s name and answered by you or your staff. For your Business Profile, Google recommends a local number over a central call center line, under the business’s direct control. Use your Juárez shop number there.

Prices: pesos first, dollars beside them

The Ley Federal de Protección al Consumidor requires product information and advertising in Spanish, with prices in pesos. The workable setup is the peso price every time, as the law requires, and, where it helps your El Paso customers, a dollar equivalent next to it as a reference.

The exchange rate moves. Banco de México’s FIX rate, used to settle dollar obligations in pesos, went from 17.7100 on September 25, 2026 to 18.3688 on October 1: a 3.7% move in four banking days. A 1,800-peso service went from about $102 to about $98. To avoid arguments at the register:

  1. Put a date next to the dollar price, for example “reference as of October 1”.
  2. If you take dollars, state the exchange rate you use, and use the same one online and at the counter.
  3. Update the dollar figures every week, or sooner if the rate moves more than your margin can absorb.

If you sell online, the same law requires you to give your physical address, phone numbers and a way to file complaints before the purchase. And if your site has a form, books appointments or stores customer details, you need an aviso de privacidad under the personal data law published in the Diario Oficial on March 20, 2025.

Your Google Business Profile, with your Juárez address

Your Business Profile is the listing that shows in Google Maps when someone searches for your business or what you sell. The Google rules that matter most for you:

  • Your real address. The profile uses the real location of your shop. Google does not accept PO boxes or virtual offices. Don’t borrow an El Paso address to show up in searches there; it puts the profile at risk.
  • Your real name. The one on your storefront, your website and your stationery, without extra words such as “El Paso” or “bilingual dentist”.
  • A local phone number, as covered above.

Google ranks local results by relevance, distance and prominence. Distance works against you: for someone searching from East El Paso, your shop is far away on the map. The other two help: a profile and website that say plainly what you do, in English too, and how well known your business is through its reviews. Google says replying to reviews also helps; answer each one in the language it was written in.

Upload photos of your storefront and entrance, taken from the street, so a first-time visitor recognizes the place.

Facebook and Instagram: ads for El Paso ZIP codes

In Mexico, 85% of urban internet users have Facebook, according to the same AIMX study. To reach the other side, Meta’s ads let you choose where the audience is: a country, a city or a ZIP code, and whether they live there or were there recently.

One practical setup: an English ad aimed at the El Paso ZIP codes where you already have customers, with your dollar price and the WhatsApp button, separate from your Spanish ad for Juárez. You see what each one brings in. To know whether any of this works, count the messages that arrive with the English page’s text and ask at the counter: “where are you visiting from?”

On Facebook and Instagram, list the same hours, address and WhatsApp number as on Google, and pin an English post with directions from the bridge.

Directories: the same details everywhere

Before chasing more directories, check that your name, address and phone number read the same on your website, Google, Facebook and Instagram. The same goes for the Sistema de Información Empresarial Mexicano (SIEM): the Ley de Cámaras Empresariales requires every establishment to register there and update it each year, and CANACO Servytur Juárez has a module for it.

Questions

Can I list an El Paso address on my Google profile to show up in searches over there?

Only if you really have an El Paso location that serves customers. Google's guidelines require the business's real-world location and reject PO boxes and virtual offices. If your shop is in Juárez, use that address and put the work into what does count: an English page and reviews from your El Paso customers.

Can I show my prices in dollars only?

For what you sell in Mexico, the Ley Federal de Protección al Consumidor requires the price in pesos. The practical setup is the peso price every time, with the dollar equivalent next to it for El Paso customers and the date of the exchange rate you used.

Do I need a US phone number?

No. A WhatsApp button handles most first contacts because it runs over the internet, not as an international call. A US number that rings on your cell helps customers who would rather call; if you add one, keep it in your business's name and answered by you or your staff.

Can I just run my Spanish site through a translator?

It won't do much for El Paso searches. Google works out a page's language from the text people can see, and a translate button does not create an English page Google can show. Our bilingual website guide covers the details.

Does Rodco Systems work with Juárez businesses?
